Caulfield Joinery was established in 1978 by John Caulfield, the original joiner. It was a highly successful business producing quality hardwood kitchens, windows, doors and furniture. Pearse Caulfield, the joiner/philosopher, joined the family business from a young age. On completion of an apprenticeship in joinery he then decided to return to university while still working as a joiner. He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, in 2012, gaining a BA in philosophy.
